DO WE LIKE THE LOCATION?

At first glance on the map this could seem like an unideal location considering its proximity to Les Halles and the boisterous Rue Montorgeuil but the restaurant itself is set away from the chaos and is tucked on a relatively quiet, mostly pedestrian street.

THE CROWD - YAY OR NAY?

This crowded restaurant is usually more subdued than expected and isn’t too loud. The restaurant itself has a simple white interior, light wood tables, a tufted banquette so all in all it is quite bobo, as are the patrons but then again I am wearing an MM6 skirt while I type this so if I were to mock them I’d only be pointing a finger right back at myself.

WHAT TO DRINK?

Heavy food calls for a heavy wine so I always choose a red, either Italian or French.

WHAT TO EAT?

I’m not a huge eater so when I know I’ll be eating a pizza I usually hold off on starter courses. At Popine I generally opt for the Partigiano which, I know, makes me a fair-weather vegetarian but the ham from Parma is so luscious with the bite of aged parmesan, the tang of the arugula, the juiciness of the cherry tomatoes and the bleeding buffala that I just can’t help myself - c’est pas ma faute! My partner, who is the fastest eater I have ever known, usually scarfs down the ultra loaded Funghi e Tartufo pizza or the Cinque Formaggi with extra olive oil.

DESSERT?

I don’t have the biggest sweet tooth but I can never resist a Tiramisu - anything that tastes like espresso is an immediate win in my book!

WHAT’S THE OCCASION?

After two visits it became our go-to spot for dinner before catching the newest movies at Les Halles. This place is perfect for casual birthday dinners, dinner meetups with friends, or a family pizza night.

THE VERDICT?

I would give this place an 8/10 purely because I wish there were more vegetarian options so my conscience could have a reprieve.
