To help a young woman in search of her origins, Josephine teleports to 1830s Martinique and meets Venus and Scipio, a couple of slaves working on the plantations. Roland, the plantation's steward, is in love with Venus, but Scipio won't have it. Scipio is then suspected of setting fire to a dwelling and faces death.
