Don Rodrigo Malapensa, a new ranchero in the area, wants to buy the De la Vega ranch. Faced with Don Alejandro's refusal, Don Malapensa proposes a deal to the commander Monasterio: he helps him capture Zorro, and the commander assists him in taking over the De la Vega ranch. Manuel, a peasant, is kidnapped by Don Malapensa's henchmen to attract Zorro.
