As his editor urges him to send in an article, Adam receives mysterious anonymous messages and is confronted by his former stalkers, who don't recognize him. His mother's death, meanwhile, arouses guilt in him that he dares not face. Recalling his friendship with Axel Challe, he finds the hiding place the latter had revealed to him. He meets Axel's wife Sarah, who, like him, believes in his innocence. When a group of masked men descend on him, Adam is rescued by Fafa, a solitary librarian who secretly documents the city's daily life.
