The story follows a large bourgeois French family, throughout a century. It begins at the end of 19th century, with a 20 year old Valentine, who spends joyful days with her beloved husband and their children. At the end of the following century, we see Valentine's great-granddaughter in the arms of her significant other. In between these two moments, which are a century apart, many people meet and fall in love, pursue their destinies thus creating a wide family tree...
