In the narrow streets of Montparnasse district, a troubled painter named Modigliani drags his misery around the feverish bistros, drinking away his sorrows. Misunderstood by his contemporaries, he desperately tries to sell his drawings. The painter is loved by two women: Beatrice, an Englishwoman with excessive fantasies, and Jeanne Hebuterne, a young bourgeois who abandons her family to join him. However, struck by a terrible disease, the genius painter is slowly approaching his end, still hoping that someone will give recognition to his talent.
